Lola Crisanta Icatlo-Importado, 96 years old, Kinalangay Viejo, Malinao, Aklan is one of the direct beneficiaries of the Typhoon Yolanda Fund Drive by Tinig Pinoy Radio.

In the wake of Typhoon Yolanda’s trail was death, destruction to properties, industry and agriculture. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos who survived reeled badly, some of them very close to home. Home to us is Tinig Pinoy Radio where many katinig are native of Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Samar and Leyte. Many parts of these provinces bore the brunt of what was recorded as the most powerful typhoon to hit land.

While scores of organizations worldwide worked on raising funds to help the victims, Tinig Pinoy Radio (TPR) was involved in at least three such endeavours. Successfully held weeks after the catastrophe, the Save Yolanda Victims Concert and the Yolanda Zumbathon raised thousands of dollars which were doubled in value by the Government of Canada as the money was channelled through the Canadian Red Cross.

Meanwhile, concerned Katinigs from five countries organized collections of donations, the proceeds of which was earmarked for a number of TPR members whose immediate families were gravely affected by the destructive typhoon. Singapore’s Gio Alano spearheaded the sale of Bangon Pilipinas T-Shirt that not only raised awareness to the tragic event and the call for help but also raised money by donating $5 for every shirt sold. Macau’s Eurikamae Dula-Morales, Singapore’s Narz Serrano and Mavic Padilla, KSA’s Joerhol Nerecena and Me-anne Magnanao, Hongkong’s Brimz Nunag-Bangal and USA’s DJ Ed Abad came forward to head/coordinate collections of donations from kind-hearted katinig, friends and employers. Ligaya Yabut of Ottawa, unable to physically help during the Ottawa fund drive, as well as members of DJ Ed’s church in San Diego used the newly-created donation button at TPR’s website to drop various amounts as their personal donations. And finally, during an informal ceremony last weekend in Singapore, after months of coordination and identifying the fund beneficiaries mainly from the lists provided by TPR Team Leaders, the last of the remaining proceeds were handed over to some beneficiaries thus effectively wrapping-up the fund drive*. We are sharing here, courtesy of our very hard-working Katinig Bossing Gio Alano, pictures that captured the closure of the low-profile fund raiser, copies of remittance receipts, confirmation notes and messages of thanks.
