The Ecumenical Prayer Service started as planned, at 2PM, November 24th at the Paroise Baptiste of the Dominican University College in Ottawa’s chinatown. At least 4 pastors namely, Pastor Tony Larracas, Pastor Tara Agpoon, etc., from various religious congregations in Ottawa attended the ceremonies with community leaders, business leaders and members of the Filipino Canadian community present. It was a touching vigil led by Father Francine Allard of the Dominican University College and Philippine Centre Canada’s Rafael Mamaril.

After the service, a two-hour musical concert unfolded to the delight of approximately 250 strong crowd.

CBC’s Adrian Harewood was very efficient in keeping the attention of the audience with his equally melodious voice and unassuming charm. The performers composed mostly of young Canadians of Filipino descent were almost professional in their rendition of beautiful songs fitting well with the occasion. Reporters and crews from CBC’s French and English TV network and reporters from BBC came and conducted interviews of people particularly those directly affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda. Altogether, the concert was successful both in terms of quality entertainment and the proceeds from the donors. With Canada’s matching, the event raised close to $20,000 CDN all of which were turned over to the Canadian Red Cross.

Light snacks were then served at the Alex the Great Hall of the DUC.
