 Amidst applause from appreciative audience, Tinig Pinoy founder and executive producer Dan de Castro was pinned the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Award medal by no less than Canada's Foreign Minister John Baird, on March 19th at the Parliament Hill. Cited for his over twenty years of meritorious service to the Ottawa community, and the Filipino-Canadian in particular, Mr. de Castro and 11 other deserving Canadians were accorded the award which represents Queen Elizabeth's 60 years tenure as reigning monarch of the Commonwealth.

Also present during the awarding were immediate family members of the twelve awardees.

Asked about the significance of the award, Dan de Castro attributed the recognition to the strong cooperation of the community to initiatives of its community leaders which translates to the benefit of many more people. He likewise expressed his appreciation to his immediate family and the volunteers and staff of Tinig Pinoy Radio for their support, hard work and perseverance.
